COMPETITIVE PLAY

** Open Play

All Play or Open Play is available to all residents of CantaMia and is intended to be social and inclusive to allow all players of all skill levels to meet and play together.

** Kings and Queens

The King and Queen Challenge is an activity held  twice  a month on Courts 1-6, for the first 12 ladies and 12 men who opt "in" for play.

There will be seven games played and timed at 11 minutes each.  After each game, teams will move either up or down a court, and new partners are made by keeping with the "mixed doubles" theme.

At the end of seven games, the winning team on Court 1 is declared the King and Queen for the day.

NOTE:  To have your name placed on the Kings & Queens "INVITE" list, please contact  pickleballcantamia@gmail.com .

** Spring & Fall "In-house" Double Elimination Tournaments

Typically, the Spring "in-house" Tournament is played in March, while the Fall "in-house" Tournament is played in November.

Double Elimination FAQ's

Double Elimination Format:

  • Once assigned to a court you will play until one team wins the best two out of three games.
  • Play is to 11, the winning team must win by a two-point margin.
  • The winning team will continue in the Winner’s bracket.
  • Once a team loses, they automatically move to the Opportunity bracket.
  • Once in the Opportunity bracket you play one game to 15.
  • You can continue to win in the Opportunity bracket and end up playing in the Winner’s bracket at the end of the tournament.
  • Once a team loses in the Opportunity bracket they are out of the tournament.
  • The least number of games you can play in the tournament is 3.

** Example: lose two games in your first match, move to the Opportunity bracket and lose that game. This equals 3 games played.

Like any tournament, playing time depends on pace of play and courts available. We hope this information will help you better understand how double elimination tournaments work.
